SACRED NINE PROJECT 2025 CHORAL CONCERT
Concert Possibility I: Christians living at the time of the resurrection thought Christ would return in their own lifetimes. Now, more than two millennia later, Evagangelicals still talk about it like it’s imminent…like it might happen tomorrow…that the world stage is demonstrating that the time is at hand. This concert will focus on American hymnody’s obsession with heaven and The Rapture. Included in this concert will be a musical representation of an old camp meeting altar call, which is sure to be a little scary but so fun! I’m also trying to find a way to stage a kind of “left behind” thing, but I need to really study on that.
Concert Possibility II: Rayne Methodist, who has been our host all these years, is turning 150, and we might do an imaginative concert about Charles Wesley, who was one of the founders of Methodism, and, of course, an amazing hymnist.
Below is the rehearsal, dress rehearsal, and performance schedule and it cannot be changed. Attendance at all rehearsals is required. You are allowed one absence if you have a conflict. However, I ask that you do not surprise me with other absences, or even with one absence if you have not marked it on your contract. The purpose of allowing one absence is if you already had a conflict at the time of the contract signing, or have a real emergency afterward; it is not a kind of “free pass” to miss at any time.
This “year ahead” system worked like a charm this time. This is how it works: If you plan to participate, please say so on the survey below and put the dates on your calendar (this is key!). If a conflicting opportunity or life situation emerges, you will have all the information you need; you can either sing in Sacred Nine, or you can prioritize the other opportunity or issue. If that precludes you from participating in Sacred Nine, please inform me immediately, but please no later than November 1, 2024. At that time, I will draft contracts for everyone. My plan is to secure at least the same funds for stipends for 2025 ($200).
Please put these on your calendar! (and be careful about whether each is a 2-hour or 3-hour rehearsal; there are a couple of 3-hour rehearsals in there.
If you forget the rehearsal schedule, this website will stay here, but again…put the dates on your calendar ASAP!
Please fill out the survey below no later than Friday, March 22, 2024!
